Orpheus Strings is a community based chamber orchestra which includes amateur and professional musicians. It has been delighting Blue Mountains audiences since 1993 and has become a valuable cultural asset to the area.
The Orpheus Strings Orchestra has a varied repertoire ranging from Baroque to Twentieth Century composers. Whilst the Orchestra mainly plays string music other instruments or voices are sometimes brought in.
The Orpheus Strings give regular concerts in the “Pat Heffernan Hall” at Katoomba Public School. This hall is known for its fine accoustics and has facilities for the disabled
Whilst the Orpheus Strings’s main objective is to bring the classical repertoire to the Blue Mountains community, it also has an important secondary function as a training orchestra in which student players can gain vital orchestral experience.
The Orchestra is supported by the “Friends of Orpheus Strings”.
The Orchestra regularly has vacancies in its string sections. New musicians are always welcome.
