April Concert

Natalie Nicolas

Sydney composer, researcher and educator Dr Natalie Nicolas completed her PhD and Master of Music (Composition) degrees under scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Winner of  the prestigious Flinders Quartet Composition Competition in 2017 and 2019, her composition We Won’t Let You Down was ARIA nominated in 2019 for Best Independent Classical Album.

Elena Kats-Chernin

Soviet born Australian composer, Elena Kats-Chernin is one of Australia’s most prolific composers. Winner of numerous music composition prizes in Australia, her pieces are regularly broadcast on ABC Classic FM radio, and were played at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games opening ceremony. Moon Feather Magic was commissioned by the HUSH music foundation in 2017

Gustav Holst

British composer Gustav Theodore Holst rose to fame shortly after the First World War, following the success of his Planets series of compositions, some of the most famous and often played classical compositions of the 20th century. A pioneer in women’s education in music, he wrote his composition St Paul’s Suite during his time as teacher at St Paul’s Girls College,  where he taught from 1905 until his death in 1934

Josef Suk

Josef Suk was a Hungarian born composer of the late 19th, early 20th centuries. An accomplished violinist virtuoso, he has written a number of violin compositions and concertos. A favored pupil of Dvorak, he was heavily influenced by his mentor’s style, and in 1898, married Dvorak’s daughter, Otilie. The Suk Serenade is widely considered one of the greatest works for String Orchestra
